A sharp little wheatgrass morning shot
By the PBC team · July 2026
Wheatgrass is the boldest of the young grasses — bright, grassy, unmistakably green. This is the short way to drink it: cold, small, sharpened with lemon and ginger, first thing. Two minutes, no blender.
What you need
- 1 level teaspoon (4g) wheatgrass powder
- ½ a fresh lemon
- A thin slice of fresh ginger, or a small pinch of ground
- About 150ml cold water — this one drinks best small
- A shaker bottle if you have one; a glass and a brisk stir if not
How to make it
Measure
One level teaspoon straight from the pouch — the full 4g daily serve. First week? Start with half; the grassy note softens on you quicker than you’d expect. For ages 5–12, half a teaspoon is the measure.
Shake it cold
Into the shaker with the cold water — lid on, ten good shakes. Cold is what makes wheatgrass dissolve clean instead of clumping, and it keeps the flavour bright rather than heavy. No shaker? Water first, powder second, thirty seconds of proper stirring.
Lemon and ginger
Squeeze in the half lemon and drop in the ginger. This is what turns a green drink into a morning shot — sharp, clean, slightly warming. The lemon helps beyond taste too: its vitamin C gives the iron in wheatgrass a hand with absorption.
Drink it first thing
Pour it small and drink it fresh, about half an hour before breakfast. That’s the whole habit — a bright green start before the day gets a say.
“Small glass, cold water, no ceremony.”
Make it yours
- Softer — swap the water for chilled apple juice; the grassiness settles right into it
- Rounder — a teaspoon of maple syrup if the shot lands too sharp at first
- Bigger — stretch the same teaspoon into a full 300ml glass; milder, same serve
- For kids (5–12) — half a teaspoon, apple juice, skip the ginger
Good to know
Drink it freshly made — like all our greens it settles as it stands, and a shot this small is gone before that matters. If one pouch pours a shade greener than the last, that’s the nature of a single-ingredient powder: nothing added, nothing evened out.
