The barley grass and coconut water cooler
By the PBC team · July 2026
If spirulina is the bold one, barley grass is the easy one — mellow enough to drink plain, every day. This glass keeps it that way: half water, half chilled coconut water, naturally a little sweet, nothing added. The easiest green to start with.
What you need
- 1 level teaspoon (4g) barley grass powder
- Half a glass of cool water
- Chilled coconut water to top up — about 150ml
- Ice, if the day calls for it
No blender, no shaker, no technique. A glass and a spoon.
How to make it
Measure
One level teaspoon from the pouch — the full 4g serve. Barley grass is gentle enough that most people start at the full teaspoon from day one. Ages 5–12: half a teaspoon.
Just stir
Stir it into the half glass of cool water until the green runs even — twenty seconds does it. This is the mildest of our greens, and it behaves like it: no clumping drama, no strong smell, just a soft grassy green.
Top with coconut water
Fill the rest of the glass with chilled coconut water. That’s the whole trick — it brings a natural, light sweetness without adding anything else to the list.
Enjoy
Over ice on a warm afternoon, or straight from the fridge shelf on an ordinary one. Mild enough that keeping it up daily takes no willpower at all — which is rather the point.
“The green for people who think they don’t like greens.”
Make it yours
- Plainer — just cool water works; barley grass carries a glass on its own
- Smoothie bowl — blend the teaspoon with a frozen banana and a kiwi for something gentle and spoonable
- Brighter — a squeeze of lime over the ice
- For kids (5–12) — half a teaspoon; the coconut water makes it the easiest sell in the range
Good to know
Coconut water brands vary in sweetness, so taste before you think about adding anything. And as with every single-ingredient green, slight shade differences between pouches are normal — that’s the plant, not a recipe change.
